Mexico capped off their 5th consecutive CONCACAF U17 Tournament win against the USMNT, winning 3-1 in Guatemala this past weekend. The streak started back in 2015 and will continue until the 2025 tournament. Sounds great but as with all things Mexican Soccer, its more complicated once you start digging.

Mexico FIFA 22 Ratings

It’s that time of year. The newest version of FIFA is about to release and you know what that means: time to argue over player ratings. Of course, ratings tend to prefer Mexicans in Europe but they seem fine to me. Lets just hope they improve Pro Clubs… Besides the top rated players, I added some other players of note as well.

The Road to The 2016 Olympics Begins

Fabian and Dos Santos flash their Gold Medals

Mexico has released it’s u22 squad that will be competing in September friendlies as they prepare for Olympic qualifying. The squad will take on Pumas (9/4), Panama U22 (9/6), and Cruz Azul (9/8). Camp begins 8/31 and will be led by Raul Gutierrez. The squad is fresh off of a 2nd place finish at the Panamerican Games in Toronto.

Espericueta Leads U21s Against Honduras

After the senior team fumbled their game in Belarus, the U21s tried to give us something to cheer about. The team kicked off the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, where countries are allowed 3 “over-age” players but this is basically a U21 tournament. Mexico started their campaign against Honduras and were able to win by a comfortable margin of 5-2. Mexico is the favorite to win it all. The tournament may very well be a minor one but it still is a great chance for these players to continue their development. 1 player caught my eye in particular. Continue reading

Where Are They Now: U17 2011 WC Champions

Although it hasn’t led to similar success at the senior level, Mexico has recently produced youth World Cup champions. The 2011 U-17 World Cup winning side will be the focus of this piece. This team likely played my favorite game by Mexico at any level. Their come from behind victory against Germany to reach the Final at Azteca. It is common for youth stars to shine at an international tournament only to not be heard from again for a couple years when they are fighting for first team minutes. This team is coming up on 3 years from that magical night at the Azteca,  some are already getting first team minutes, others don’t even know what the bench looks like. Lets see where the players in the final are now:
