Mexico capped off their 5th consecutive CONCACAF U17 Tournament win against the USMNT, winning 3-1 in Guatemala this past weekend. The streak started back in 2015 and will continue until the 2025 tournament. Sounds great but as with all things Mexican Soccer, its more complicated once you start digging.Continue reading

The road to the 2026 won’t be easy for Mexico but at least we know what FIFA ranking they will start it with.Continue reading
Mexico’s Manager Search Begins
Friend of the blog, Joshua takes a look at the latest rumors surrounding Mexico’s next coach….
As the dust settles on Mexico’s failed attempts to get out of their World Cup group, and the wishes of many vocal fans of seeing Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino sacked has come to fruition, the focus naturally has moved on to who the replacement will be. Ever the demanding job, with the intense media scrutiny, the list of candidates with decent qualifications wanting to take the job is likely to be short. Still, a few names have popped up already.Continue reading
Where Does Mexico Go From Here?
In my last blog post, I focused on how things are never as good or bad as many fans think they are for El Tri. While I still subscribe to that thinking, the future is very cloudy for the National team. Unless the FMF start planning with an eye towards 2026, Mexico will be embarrassed on home soil. Not sure players want 90k at the Azteca booing them. How can the FMF avoid that? I have some ideas ….Continue reading
Here for a Good Time or a Long Time?
The World Cup is finally here. How are Mexico fans feeling? …… Yeah, I’m not making any plans for us to be in the final on December 18th either. But I don’t think things are as bad as many are making them out to be for El Tri. Maybe it’s the optimistic in me but I think Mexico is more likely to end their tournament in the knockout round instead of the group stage in Qatar.Continue reading
Help: Starting Winger Needed
For a team short on creativity, losing Jesus Corona is definitely a blow for Mexico. The Sevilla winger suffered a fractured fibula earlier this week and reports point to a recovery time of 4-5 months. Seeing as Mexico opens their World Cup against Poland in 3 months, Tata will need to find a replacement to start.Continue reading
El Tri Returns To Their Roots
In a shock to no one, Adidas decided to give us a green jersey for the upcoming World Cup. It will also be the first jersey to feature the new crest. The old crest will always hold a special place in my heart but the new one has grown on me since it was announced. As it with all their World Cup kits, Adidas is using their new logo as well. So, there’s a lot going on in this kit. How did it turn out?Continue reading
Tata’s Time Almost Up?
Being the manager of the Mexican National Team is a thankless job with immense pressure. The media scrutiny is intense and you are expected to win everything in CONCACAF but at the same time, rarely given credit for doing so because CONCACAF is no CONMEBOL or UEFA. Add in a fanbase that expects you to win every game in an enjoyable fashion and it is easy to see why there are few takers every time the position is open. I take all of this into account when I try to keep a level head after a rough Mexico game when El Tri twitter wants to fire Tata. My friends/followers think I’m a “Tata Apologist” but I just never saw the benefit in making a coaching switch. Until now…
Is the USMNT European Pipeline a Problem for Mexico?
With both nations announcing their rosters, many were quick to point out the makeup of each side. It started a discussion about the leagues where the players are currently at. With twitter user @xGoalsMX pointing out that Mexico has more (4) MLS players in camp than the USMNT (3). A much larger discrepancy was evident in the number of players in the “Top 5 European Leagues” with US Soccer having 16 players to Mexico’s 5. The question has to be asked, do these numbers indicate Mexico is behind US Soccer in producing quality players for their national teams?
Leak of Mexico’s New Home Kit?
Todo Sobre Camisetas and FootyHeadlines have a great track record of leaking kits from all around the world. I believe they even leaked Mexico’s 2018 World Cup jerseys in January 2017. Even with all that evidence, I am praying to the kit gods they are wrong with this leak.Continue reading
