Gracias Salcido

A veteran of countless battles for Mexico has decided to hang up his boots on his international career. It was officially announced at a press conference today by Chivas. He spoke about wanting to play in another WC but realizing it was not going to be.  Therefore he has decided to step aside. I will definitely miss Salcido. Most fans did not expect him to make the 23 to Russia but assumed he would be there through at least the Gold Cup next year. He might not get the same recognition as Rafa Marquez but he should be praised for his club career as much as his national team career.

Empieza El Rumbo al Mundial Rusia 2018

The much maligned August friendlies are upon us. Every club manager’s worst nightmare. Clubs have made such a stink that FIFA will phase them out soon. In the mean time, lets just enjoy El Tri playing more home games in front of capacity crowds. If the game is within North America, I consider it a home game. Even at the World Cup, those games feel like home games for Mexico. Regardless of what continent it is on. Thus, is the power of the Mexico Brand. Where Are They Now: U17 2011 WC Champions

Although it hasn’t led to similar success at the senior level, Mexico has recently produced youth World Cup champions. The 2011 U-17 World Cup winning side will be the focus of this piece. This team likely played my favorite game by Mexico at any level. Their come from behind victory against Germany to reach the Final at Azteca. It is common for youth stars to shine at an international tournament only to not be heard from again for a couple years when they are fighting for first team minutes. This team is coming up on 3 years from that magical night at the Azteca,  some are already getting first team minutes, others don’t even know what the bench looks like. Lets see where the players in the final are now:
