The road to the 2026 won’t be easy for Mexico but at least we know what FIFA ranking they will start it with.
The latest rankings will see El Tri drop down 2 spots to #15. Just behind their CONCACAF counterparts, USMNT, who are at #13. Who is sandwiched in between them? Germany. During the 2022 World Cup cycle (’18-’22), Mexico’s highest ranking was 9 and their lowest was 18.
Weird that Argentina isn’t #1 but FIFA’s formula is pretty rigid, that’s why we know the rankings before they post them every month. Mexico’s next coach won’t have to qualify but will hopefully play teams above Mexico’s ranking as we get closer to the next World Cup.
