Mexico 3 – Netherlands 2

Everyone seems to love this Vela guy

That was fun, right? That was one of the more entertaining Mexico games I have seen in years. It was end to end action all 90 minutes plus. Both teams were in search of a victory. Each team had different reasons but it was clear, each coach wanted to walk out of the stadium with a victory, not a draw. Mexico wanted to keep building on their post-WC run. Netherlands was in search of a good showing after having a rough start to their Euro 2016 qualification. These ambitions led to a fun game.

Holland v Mexico – Part Dos

Game day is upon us and Piojo has released his lineup….. Yes, Vela is starting with former Chivas teammate Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez up top.  While many were hoping for a 3-headed attack of Gio, Chicha, & Vela, most knew that was not likely w/Piojo’s current tactics. I agree with Cesar Hernandez, I wish Piojo would have introduced Vela like in a certain Disney movie

Cubo Torres – Decision Time

El Cu-Bot

5 weeks. That is the time afforded to Cubo Torres to make the biggest decision of his career. Cubo told the media he has until December 15th to make a decision whether to stay in MLS or go back home and try to save the Chivas from themselves. From all accounts, it seems his mind is not made up either way. I am sure many would love the story book ending of him coming back to Guadalajara and leading the team from its relegation battle. I am not one of those fans but Joshua Picazo is. Today, we will both make our cases. Let us know in the comments who you agree with.

My November Callups

Reunited and it feels so good…… (Hopefully)

Its almost time for the November friendlies aka Judgement Day for Vela. The games will be important but all anyone has been talking about since the Panama game has been Carlitos Vela. Will he or won’t he? No one really knows, at least for a few more days. But if you ask me, he will be there.

Vela is just one of Piojo’s 22 call ups. Who will the other 21 be? This is who I would like to be called up.  Continue reading

Mexico (2) v (1) Honduras – Recap

It was a nervy start for El Tri. Which seems to be the standard for friendlies w/new players adapting to Piojo’s system. The new guys had to adapt to the 3 man backline since all 3 play with 4 in the back at their clubs. I think they did well after a shaky start and the backline was solid after the first 20 or so minutes. While I don’t agree fully with Piojo’s assessment of his new look back 3, they improved as the game went along.

Overall, it was  solid game for Mexico. Lets dive into the details.

Mexico v Honduras

The October friendlies are upon us and Mexico will actually play them in Mexico. Just how rare is a Mexico game in the country of Mexico?

That rare. National team games are like printing money in the US (and the federation has a contract to play a certain # of games there). Let’s see what Piojo has in store for us tonight. Continue reading
