My Top 25 Mexican Players

Earlier this week, Cesar Hernandez released a Top 25 Mexican Players List. He put the list together with input from others, I was lucky enough to be asked for my top 25. Below is my rankings and notes on some of my picks. Sound off in the comments if you feel my rankings are terrible in comparison to yours.  Continue reading

Layun Signing With Watford

Done with my winter break. I figured since most European leagues took a break, I should too. Below is the Euro schedule for this weekend. Another thing to keep an eye on is LigaMX. The new season kicks off this weekend.

Weekend Schedule- 12/20

The way Tecatito is playing, I bet plenty of his kits are flying off the shelves. He’s become must see tv for fans, including me. My only complaint is Twente’s early kickoff times but this weekend they play a little later in the morning.  Look after the jump for Tecatito and other Mexicans Abroad kick off times.

Espericueta Leads U21s Against Honduras

After the senior team fumbled their game in Belarus, the U21s tried to give us something to cheer about. The team kicked off the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games, where countries are allowed 3 “over-age” players but this is basically a U21 tournament. Mexico started their campaign against Honduras and were able to win by a comfortable margin of 5-2. Mexico is the favorite to win it all. The tournament may very well be a minor one but it still is a great chance for these players to continue their development. 1 player caught my eye in particular. Continue reading

Belarus v Mexico

The lineup is out and nearly features a whole new team (Paul Aguilar being the only exception). This was to be expected given that is how Piojo has treated the 2nd game in the post-WC friendlies. The way I look at it, Netherlands was the main course and Belarus will be the dessert. The new look lineup sees the Dos Santos hermanos starting together for El Tri. Something we thought would be a common occurrence but has not happened for a couple of years now.

Here is what I will be keeping my eye on.

Mexico 3 – Netherlands 2

Everyone seems to love this Vela guy

That was fun, right? That was one of the more entertaining Mexico games I have seen in years. It was end to end action all 90 minutes plus. Both teams were in search of a victory. Each team had different reasons but it was clear, each coach wanted to walk out of the stadium with a victory, not a draw. Mexico wanted to keep building on their post-WC run. Netherlands was in search of a good showing after having a rough start to their Euro 2016 qualification. These ambitions led to a fun game.
