Hector Moreno and Real Sociedad beat Real Madrid 2-0

January soccer feels like the week between Christmas and New Year’s. No one is sure who is working or what day of the week it is. Here are a few things that happened over the weekend.

Weekend Notes

  • Hector Moreno is having a rough season in Spain but he had a good performance in his squad’s surprise 2-0 away win.
  • It was assumed Hector Herrera would extend his Porto contract after he didn’t move in the Summer window but he is in the last 6 months of his deal and can leave on a free. He is an experienced international player with no transfer fee attached to him, HH will have options if he decides to leave Porto. The classic Herrera to Serie A rumor is back.
  • Andres Guardado returned to the field for Real Betis but it wasn’t enough as they fell 2-1 to Huesca. El Principito was rusty and did not have his best outing in his 31 minutes off the bench.
  • Antonio Briseno continues to play well in Portugal. He leads the club in minutes and is the second highest rated player on the club per WhoScored. Unfortunately, his club is in the relegation zone at the moment. Either way, the 24 yr old is slowly playing his way back into the national team picture.
