Mexico has released it’s u22 squad that will be competing in September friendlies as they prepare for Olympic qualifying. The squad will take on Pumas (9/4), Panama U22 (9/6), and Cruz Azul (9/8). Camp begins 8/31 and will be led by Raul Gutierrez. The squad is fresh off of a 2nd place finish at the Panamerican Games in Toronto.
Some recent senior team call ups appear on the list such as Carlos Salcedo and Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres. Pachuca stars Rodolfo Pizzarro and Erick Gutierrez also appear on the list. Altogether, there are 4 Pachuca and 7 Chivas players called up. Hopefully the familiarity will help the squad. Current FC Porto keeper and former Chivas man Raul Gudiño has received a call up and is likely to start in net. Missing from the roster is FC Twente’s Jesus Corona, which likely means he will be with the senior team. Qualifying for the Olympics is something the federation has said is a priority. This roster is good enough to go to Brazil and make some noise.
