Jimenez makes his Benfica debut.

Sunday was not as kind to Los Europeos. Minutes were not as plenty as they were yesterday. Here is Joshua Picazo’s recap of the action.

Jesus Corona- Twente
Tecatito had numerous chances in a game that felt like a repeat of the previous two. Twente will likely have to fight to just stay in the Eredivisie.  After finding themselves in a financial mess, the team has sold several players. In today’s lineup, half of the match squad was 20 or younger. In this away game against PEC Zwolle, the visitors struggled and Tecatito often found himself running back to help his defense. Perhaps his biggest moment came in added time when he nearly equalized but could not reach the cross that was inches from goal. Ultimately, Twente lost by a score of 1-2. This was Twente’s first loss to PEC in over a decade, which highlights the slump they are in.

Miguel Layun- Watford FC
Layun was dropped from the starting line-up in what some (particularly El Tri fans) feel is a head scratcher. He did not see any time in a scoreless draw with Southampton.

Alan Pulido- Olympiacos
Pulido did not play due to muscle discomfort.

Jona Dos Santos- Villarreal
He is working his way back to match fitness after taking a break and was not included in the game day 18.

Raul Jimenez- Benfica
Raul started the game on the bench. Benfica immediately conceded a goal in the first half. The ex-Atletico Madrid and Club America striker came on to make his debut in the 77th minute and took a close range shot from the corner in the 83rd min that went over the cross bar. Benfica came close to tying at the end but took the 1-0 loss.

Giovani Dos Santos – LA Galaxy
Gio has quickly become a dominant player in MLS, attacking with ease. He assisted his team’s second goal by Robbie Keane in the 55th min. He has a goal or an assist in all four league games he has played with LA. A goal of his own would come minutes later as Galaxy took a 3-0 lead. They would finish with another blowout win, defeating  NYCFC 6-1.
