One final weekend to go for a few of our Mexicans Abroad. Hold on to your butts….
- La Liga is where I will be paying attention the most. The league title is still up for grabs, along with a couple European spots. Hector Herrera can lift the league trophy if Atletico can hold off Real Madrid. Luckily for Los Colchoneros, they will face 19th place Real Valladolid while Madrid play Villarreal.
- Slightly down the standings are 6th place Real Betis. Diego Lainez and Andres Guardado may or may not be on the move but they would like to clinch a Europa League spot all the same. They play Nestor Araujo and Celta Vigo, who are stuck in 8th place regardless of result. They can clinch a group stage position if they leap frog 5th place Real Sociedad but just need to stay ahead of Villarreal to be in the Europa League playoff. As I mentioned before, Villarreal play Real Madrid. Odds are in favor of Real Betis.
- Gerardo Arteaga came up just short and will need to settle for 2nd place in Belgium. However, that does come with a pass to 3rd qualifying round in Champions League. Not a bad first season for Arteaga in Europe, 2nd place and a Cup title.
- Napoli can finish as high as 2nd in Serie A or drop to 5th and miss the Champions League. Hirving Lozano and company need to get 3 points vs 10th place Hellas Verona (yup, where Rafael Marquez played) to guarantee Champions League. The 2 clubs above them play each other, AC Milan/Atalanta, but if they get 3 points, there’s no way 5th place Juventus can catch them.
