Post-FIFA date weekends are odd. With club teams essentially being “punished” for having internationals on their roster. It’s not ideal to have your player come back to your club after playing 180 minutes with his nation such as Hirving Lozano but here we are. Overall, a quiet weekend for Mexicans Abroad.

  • Jesus Corona doing his best super sub impersonation. He came off the bench for a 25 minute cameo and provided the game winning assist. Corona is now tied for the league lead in assists in Portugal. Also, he leads the league in Key Passes for game.
  • The 22 year old followed up his good national team cameo with another strong game for his club. Gerardo Arteaga will play a role for El Tri this summer, it’s just a matter of which competition as he is age eligible for the Olympics.

  • Omar Govea was one omission from the March friendlies that I thought was snubbed. He likely was up against Jonathan dos Santos for the last midfield spot. A fight made even more difficult by Jona’s relationship with Tata. Either way, Govea continued his steady season in Belgium. The former Club America canterano is now up to 7 assists on the season, good enough for 6th in the league.
