Mexico take on Belgium in Brussels on Friday. It’s a rare “away” game for El Tri who like to play their friendlies in the US. Some say friendlies don’t matter and to a certain extent that will always be the case since they’re not part of an official tournament but how you play in friendlies does matter. With that in mind, here are a couple of things I will be watching for in Friday’s friendly.

After a long hiatus, The Colorful Kit Podcast has returned with a 2hr episode. Jon Arnold joined the pod for the first time and brought with him tons of CONCACAF knowledge. We covered a few different topics in depth and it was one of my favorite podcast episodes to be a part of.
Early in the season, it was Tecatito Corona who was the only one of the Mexicans at Porto getting any playing time. Herrera and Layun were relegated to short substitution appearances. Diego Reyes never got off the bench but things are starting to change. Herrera and Reyes were big factors why Porto won 2-0, let’s dive into how that came to be.

For the first time since November 2014, Mexico is on its way to Europe for a couple of friendlies. This time around it will be Belgium (FIFA rank: 5) and Poland (FIFA rank: 6). El Tri rarely leave the friendly and lucrative confines of the US for friendlies and this will present Osorio with a good chance to see his squad against top teams. The base for his 2018 squad should be clear but there are still spots up for grabs and it would be a good idea to give some players a chance to play. With the squad announced, let’s see if Osorio had any surprises up his sleeves….
