Blog Reboot

When I first started this blog, it was mostly to write about El Tri and Mexicans in Europe. I was getting up early every weekend to watch dodgy streams of Mexicans Abroad that were usually riddled with pop ups, it felt good to put it to use. It was a fun learning process and my first stab at blogging about futbol. Me and some friends even started podcasting about Mexican  soccer. It eventually led to me writing over at FMF State of Mind, SB Nation’s Mexican Soccer blog. As a result, this blog has kinda gone without new content for a while. The last post was just after we ushered in 2016, some were probably still hung over from New Year’s Day celebrations. So what will I be posting on here?

I’m going to use this site to post soccer related stuff that isn’t really suited for FMF State of Mind. Think more like me finding a kit from a club in the 6th tier of German football that I am trying to order or me devouring the latest Football Manager or a book review of something I am (finally) reading. Hopefully you find some cool stuff here. Now excuse me while I go re-watch Mexico beat Brazil in the 2012 Gold Medal Game.

Who Should Be On The Move

Memo in his natural habitat… the bench.

With the transfer window opening up for much of the world, its time to see which Mexicans should be looking for new addresses. Here is my list of 4 players who should really push for a move, whether its a loan or permanent transfer. For once, this list will not include Chicharito, who has found a home at Bayer Leverkusen. Let’s see who is on my list…

Rumbo a Rusia 2018

Here is  Joshua Picazo’s preview of World Cup Qualifying for Mexico:

Have you recovered from October’s wild “CONCACAF Cup” yet? We hope,
as the 2018 World Cup qualifying group stage will begin this Friday. Mexico start off their WCQ against El Salvador in the Azteca. Although the 2014 World Cup is probably still fresh on the minds of many El Tri fans, the next chapter is ready to be written with some familiar faces as well as newer ones.

Enjoy Chicharito

Hernandez celebrates his 9th goal for Bayer this season.

On deadline day, Javier Hernandez sealed a move to the Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.  There were some that called the move a step down in his career and it would have been hard to argue with them. When you play for Manchester United and Real Madrid, going to Bayer is a step down but only because there is nowhere else to go but down after those huge clubs.  Critics said Bayer only bought him for marketing reasons and jersey sales. That they spent $12-13 mil on a player more capable of selling jerseys than leading an attack. One who can only succeed as a “Super Sub” and not as an every game starter for a Champions League caliber club. Early returns on the transfer are proving those doubters wrong. I’m not sure why so much doubt in the first place. I think all the criticism of Chicharito made fans forget that he’s actually, a pretty good player.

Chicha Signed Where?

With Chicharito signing in a league unfamiliar to many Mexican fans, we thought having someone come in and catch us up on Bayer Leverkusen would be appropriate. We were able to grab Edgar Avalos from the ever growing @Bayer04LevMX Twitter account. He gives us a glimpse into how he became a Bayer fan and a history lesson on Chicharito’s new club. If you have any questions for him, feel free to ask in the comments below.

Gracias Piojo Pero Adios Piojo

It has been a wild 48 hours in Mexican Football. On one hand, El Tri completed their objective and won the Gold Cup. On the other hand, their coach had an “altercation with a reporter” and is no longer their coach. Just another couple of days in the world of Mexican football. So where does Mexico go from here? Continue reading
