Weekend Preview: 2/26

Dutch Clasico this weekend

Players returning from COVID/injuries are something to look forward to this weekend but the “Eredivisie Clasico” is my game to watch…

Weekend Schedule

2/26/21

Racing Genk vs Royal Charleroi (2:45PM ET): Look for Gerardo Arteaga to start as he has cemented his spot in the starting lineup. Mexico is always in need of in-form fullbacks and Arteaga will be given a chance this summer with the national team.

Boavista vs Vitoria (3:30 PM ET):Boavista are in a relegation battle and minutes will be hard for Alejandro Gomez.

2/27/21

Zulte vs KV Kortrijk (2:45PM ET): Expect Omar Govea to start and have another solid game. Hopefully he can get another assist to add to the beauty he had last week.

Wolves vs Newcastle (3PM ET): Raul Jimenez is still BUT his manager has total confidence in his return this season. This bodes well for Mexico’s upcoming busy summer and fall.

Porto vs Sporting CP (3:30PM ET): Huge game for Jesus Corona if Porto are to make a serious run at the league title. They currently are 10 points behind leaders, Sporting.

2/28/21

Celta Vigo vs Real Valladolid (8AM ET): Look for Nestor Araujo to start in his usual position as his club is starting to think they might have what it takes to get a Europa League spot.

PSV vs Ajax (8:30AM ET): Edson Alvarez vs Erick Gutierrez but in reality it will be Edson starting with Guti on the bench. This season has been polar opposites for the Mexico teammates. Edson has become a must start player for Ajax while Guti is getting subbed out at halftime. Either way, this will be a fun game as both clubs want the league title and guaranteed Champions League spot it comes with.

Panetolikos vs AE Larisa (10:15AM ET): Paolo Medina played all 90 minutes in their victory on Monday after the club was winless in their previous 8 games. Hopefully they keep him in the lineup.

Real Betis vs Cadiz (10:15AM ET): Diego Lainez is back from COVID and made the bench last weekend. Andres Guardado has been starting lately as well. Good chance both start as the club looks to solidify their Europa League status.

Lille vs Strasbourg (11AM ET): Eugenio Pizzuto has recovered from COVID and is back in training.

Napoli vs Benevento (12PM ET): No Hirving Lozano is leading to a rough patch for Napoli. Chucky should be out for a few more games. Gattuso can’t wait to have him back.

Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal (2PM ET): Hector Herrera is back in training and has a chance to make the bench after missing the last 5 games with COVID.

What are you watching this weekend?
