Weekend Preview: 2/19

Injuries and COVID are doing a number on Mexicans Abroad but there will still be a few in action this weekend.

Weekend Schedule

2/19/21

Wolves vs Leeds (3PM ET): No Raul Jimenez but any game involving a Bielsa-coached team will be worth a watch

Real Betis vs Getafe (3PM ET): Expect Andres Guardado to start with Diego Lainez coming off the bench. Not that COVID can be convenient but it hit Lainez just as he was cementing his starting position.

Boavista vs Moreirense (3:30PM ET): Alejandro Gomez has been all over the place this season. Starting a game here and there but not seeing consistent minutes. Going to be tough for him the rest of the way as Boavista are in a relegation battle.

2/20/21

Atletico Madrid vs Levante (10:15AM ET) : Another Mexican international to get COVID recently is Hector Herrera. He will be sidelined this weekend as he recovers.

Celta Vigo vs Valencia (12:30PM ET): After flirting with relegation last season, Nestor Araujo finds himself at a comfortable 9th place in La Liga. The games aren’t pretty but Araujo is an automatic starter for his club.

2/21/21

Zulte Waregem vs Standard Liege (10AM ET): Omar Govea is having a nice season in Belgium. He is up to 2G/5A in 22 league games, including 21 starts. Should see some time with El Tri this summer.

PSV vs Vitesse (10:45AM ET): Erick Gutierrez is 100% healthy but has yet to start a game since he returned to the field last month. Might be time to look at other clubs this summer.

Lille vs Lorient (11:05AM ET): Eugenio Pizzuto is another Mexican currently dealing with COVID. He has made the bench 7 times this season but no debut.

Napoli vs Atalanta (12PM ET): Hirving Lozano is in the midst of a great season for Napoli but it will have to wait as he recovers from a muscle injury that will keep him out a few weeks. I’m not surprised as he has played the second most minutes on anyone on the team this season.

Racing Genk vs Beerschot (12:15PM ET): Gerardo Arteaga is gaining momentum and seeing the field more often. He has started 4 of the last 6 games for his club.

Ajax vs Sparta (2PM ET): Another player gaining momentum is Edson Alvarez. He has started 6 of the last 7 games for Ajax. This includes their Cup clash versus PSV and first leg of their Europa League matchup versus Lille.

2/22/21

Panetolikos vs Panathinaikos (12:30PM ET): I’m not saying Paolo Medina is Mexico’s right back of the future or anything but he is still only 21. He is up to 5 starts this season. Could be worth a look at an upcoming Olympic squad camp.

Porto vs Maritimo (2PM ET): Jesus Corona aka Tecatito is tearing it up in Portugal. Currently 2nd in the league in assists, 1st in total key passes and 8th most fouled player. Also, he nearly had this banger in the Champions League
