LAYUN

The European leagues are not in full swing yet but the EPL kicked off this past weekend. Look for Tecatito and Guardado to make their season debuts later this week. So how did Mexicans in the EPL do? Well, one of them scored against Tim Howard and the other had a nice view from the bench.

Javier Hernandez: The Little Pea did not see the field but was included in the game day 18. With 3 weeks left in the transfer window, no one is certain Chicharito will stay at United past deadline day. Raul Jimenez seems to have slipped from West Ham’s grasp but the club might still be keen on adding a Mexican striker. Stay tuned.

Miguel Layun: The former Club America captain got a surprise start against Everton and made the most of his opportunity. Instead of his customary wingback position, Layun was deployed as an attacking midfielder. He switched between the left and right flank a couple of times but always made sure to track back to help out his defense. His new found attacking freedom let him to venture closer to goal than usual. This resulted in the first EPL goal for Watford in 3,009 days.

It was a well taken goal and put Watford ahead of a stunned Everton. Layun had another dangerous shot in the first half that went just wide.  Unfortunately for him, he ran out of gas early in the second half. He came off to a nice ovation from the traveling fans. WhoScored.com had him as the best player when he departed. Ultimately, Layun finished as the second highest rated player. It was a crucial performance for Layun as Watford will likely need to send out some players to meet the Premier League’s roster restrictions. This performance will go a long way in ensuring a spot on the 25 man roster.
