My November Callups

Reunited and it feels so good…… (Hopefully)

Its almost time for the November friendlies aka Judgement Day for Vela. The games will be important but all anyone has been talking about since the Panama game has been Carlitos Vela. Will he or won’t he? No one really knows, at least for a few more days. But if you ask me, he will be there.

Vela is just one of Piojo’s 22 call ups. Who will the other 21 be? This is who I would like to be called up.

I would love to call up Mier but he will likely not be match fit for these games. Torres Nilo is another player who keeps getting knicked up before national team games. Torres Nilo seemed like a player who was ready to step up in his club career but the last 18 months have seen a big drop in form for him. He is young enough to turn it around and become a solid player for Mexico. Pizarro is Mexico’s brightest “defensive” prospect. He plays more of a winger a role at club level but Piojo will look to unleash him down the flanks. This can be a good test to see him play against European competition. My wild card here is Diego Reyes. Piojo coached him at Club America and I can see him throwing Diego a bone ala Ochoa.

While I agree with Don Tom Marshall, I still think Piojo should at least call up Jona and/or Tecatito. I understand he is trying to put out a strong team but he will need his 2 teams for next summer. These 2 young players will factor into at least one of those teams. This European based camp will give him a good chance to see their development first hand. Unfortunately, both players do not slot into Piojo’s system so easily. I think Tecatito is in a similar situation with Aquino: both players tend to play more like wingers. A position not truly found in Piojo’s system. Like Aquino, Tecatito deserves a look in this system. He has had a great season so far. Jona is arguably one of the best passers on my “22” but the holding position in this system needs a physical player to function. The type of holding midfielder Piojo wants in his system is a physical player who can quickly give the ball to the attacking options on the team. One who is just as interested in breaking up an attack as creating one. Jona is more of a finesse player. My wild card here is: Javier Guemez. He had a solid showing last camp and deserves more looks. He might be in line if Piojo think its too soon for Jona.

CARLOS VELA. If he says no, I give up on him. No more giving him a second thought. I would rather call up Chuletita than ask Vela again… Maybe that’s too far but you get my point. I will respond with this GIF anytime someone brings him up if he declines this call up. Raul Jimenez might be in line for a call up, not necessarily due to his play on the field but to get a look at his progress.  My wild card here is Cubo Torres. The fans seem to be entrenched in “Cubomania.” Count me in, if only to see his goal celebration.
